CALGARY (660 NEWS) – After a New Year’s Eve tragedy ended up with the death of Calgary police officer Sgt. Andrew Harnett, the date for his funeral has been set.

On Jan. 9 at 1 p.m, Harnett will be laid to rest.

Due to the circumstances, CPS applied for an exemption for Harnett’s funeral to allow no more than 50 people to attend in person.

Strict COVID-19 protocols will be observed and overseen by health officials.

In a release from the CPS, they said there will be a Bearer Party, honourary pallbearers, and a Colour Guard.

“We recognize the keen interest of the public and the media in participating in this important event. At the request of the family, the funeral ceremony will not be shared publicly,” stated the release.

The funeral is by invite only due to COVID-19 restrictions, however, a procession after the ceremony will be live-streamed on the CPS Youtube channel.
