Health officials to provide update on Alberta’s COVID-19 vaccine

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The Alberta government will provide the latest update on the COVID-19 vaccine rollout for the province.

Health Minister Tyler Shandro will be joined by Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw and chair of the COVID-19 vaccine task force Paul Wynnyk for the announcement.

Shandro recently said the first Pfizer vaccinations will begin Wednesday, focusing on two hospitals in Edmonton and two in Calgary.

There will be 3,900 doses going to intensive care doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and care-home workers.

Shandro said the vaccine must be given at its delivery site, so it can’t go to care homes.

The second batch is expected later this month.

The province said it eventually plans to roll out the vaccine from 30 different locations.

The update on the vaccine plans is scheduled to begin at 12:00 p.m. and you can watch that live on this website.
