CPS and Veterans Association Food Bank team up for those in need

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Over the past few years, the Calgary Police Service and Veterans Association Food Bank have worked together to bring meals to those in need.

This year, that relationship is continuing with the need even higher through the pandemic.

Sgt. John Langford with CPS says this partnership hits close to home with many members.

“We have quite a number of veterans in the Calgary Police Service, roughly about 200. There’s definitely some sympathy towards veterans in crisis.”

He says the partnership is even more important during this year of struggles.

“With all the COVID stuff on top of the things they’re experiencing, whether it’s poverty or addictions, it’s important this year more so than ever.”

Langford says you can drop off donations at all district offices and police headquarters, but the best way to donate is by contacting the Veterans Association Food Bank to schedule a drop-off to help with public health guidelines.

He adds that donations are needed now and all throughout the year.

“It’s not just at this time and it’s not just at Remembrance day. That’s when people seem to remember the veterans the most. But, there are still empty cupboards and bills to pay come March and April.”

There is a need for perishable and non-perishable food items as well as sanitary items. Monetary donations are also accepted.
