Lethbridge woman charged in Revelstoke for refusing to wear mask

REVELSTOKE (660 NEWS) – A woman from Lethbridge has been charged with breaking public health orders after she refused to wear a mask while in Revelstoke.

RCMP were called to a Tim Horton’s in the city shortly after 5:00 a.m. Sunday after staff couldn’t convince the woman to put on a mask and she refused to leave.

“She refused to leave her seat and the (RCMP) members were able to eventually arrest her and then convince her to leave without any kind of altercation,” said Sgt. Chris Dodds with Revelstoke RCMP.

Police issued her two tickets for violating public health orders, each carrying fines of $230.

Dodds said these are the first pandemic related tickets they have issued.

“In Revelstoke, we’ve been very lucky. We haven’t had too many complaints to date regarding mask-wearing. Most people either living here or visiting have been compliant with the public health order.”

The 43-year-old woman is originally from Lethbridge but police don’t know if she had recently moved to Revelstoke or was there for an essential reason.

In November, the B.C government mandated masks to be worn in all indoor public spaces including restaurants.
