New single-day high for COVID-19 cases in Alberta: 1,731

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Alberta again established a new record for COVID-19 cases on Saturday.
The province is reporting 1,731 new cases. There were five additional deaths, bringing the province’s total to 524.
The previous single-day high was 1,584 cases set last week.
There are 415 Albertans currently in hospital, an increase of 10 from the day before. There are 88 people in intensive care.

Alberta now has 14,931 total active cases – including 6,968 in the Edmonton zone and 5,446 in the Calgary zone – while 39,381 people have recovered from the virus.
Federal figures show Alberta has the highest seven-day infection rate in Canada with 209 cases per 100,000 people.
The province introduced new gathering measures on Friday to halt the surge in cases.
