Upgrades coming to electrical systems at Foothills Hospital

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Alberta government has announced upgrades to the power and electrical system at Calgary’s Foothills Hospital.

The existing power plant at the hospital currently relies on equipment and infrastructure built in the 1960s.

“This upgrade to the Foothills hospital is long overdue,” said Minister of Infrastructure Prasad Panda.

“By making this improvement now, Alberta’s government is putting patient care first. This upgrade also means that the Calgary Cancer Centre will have access to the power it needs when it is scheduled to open in 2023.”

The new electrical facility will be powered by using natural gas.

“Albertans deserve the best health-care system in the world, and Alberta’s government is spending tax dollars to deliver,” added Minister of Health Tyler Shandro.

“This is another important step we’re taking.”

Construction on the upgrades is scheduled to start later this fall and be finished by the middle of 2023.
