DRUMHELLER (660 NEWS) — Another correctional facility in Alberta is dealing with COVID-19 cases.
Two employees at the Drumheller Institution recently tested positive and are self-isolating at home.
“Contact tracing efforts are underway, which is conducted in partnership with local public health authorities,” said a statement from Correctional Service of Canada (CSC).
“We are collaborating with public health to ensure that close contacts are self-isolating at home. CSC and Province of Alberta’s Alberta Health Services has contacted all staff to set up COVID-19 testing appointments.”
No positive cases have been found among inmates and mass testing is being conducted.
“While testing is voluntary, inmates are encouraged to consent to be tested if it is offered.”
The institution is not accommodating visits and there is no movement into the facility except for essential staffing requirements.
Alberta is currently dealing with an outbreak at the Calgary Correctional Centre as there are over 100 COVID-19 cases in inmates and 18 in staff.
