AIR1 video: Calgary men arrested on gun charges in Winnipeg after brief police chase

WINNIPEG – Two men from Calgary are facing gun charges after Winnipeg Police Service’s (WPS) Air1 helicopter noticed suspicious activity over the weekend.

WPS says the police helicopter was out for a routine flight around 2:45 a.m. Sunday. The flight crew noticed a Jeep speeding down Osborne Street.

The driver of the Jeep stopped at home in the West End, at which point a man with a gun approached. The man with the gun got into a Volvo parked nearby.

The car sped off but was eventually stopped by ground officers on Logan Street near Winks Street.

The passenger took off on foot and the driver sped away in the Volvo.

Officers chased both the man in the car and the man on foot.

The car lost control on Worth Street at Logan Ave., where the second person got out of the car and tried to run away.

Both men were eventually arrested and an assault-style rifle was seized during the arrest.

The 26-year-old and 23-year-old of Calgary have both been charged with a handful of gun charges.
