Family pleads for help one year after son was murdered

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The family of a Calgary man murdered a year ago is pleading for help.

On Oct. 7, 2019 police said Matthew Maniago was shot several times in the southeast community of McKenzie Lake.

Paramedics declared him dead on the scene.

“Without Matt, there’s a void that exists at every family gathering, every holiday and throughout every day we think of him,” said Matthew’s Dad Bob.

Police have not made any arrests in the murder but believe a 2007 to 2009 white Honda CRV and a blue 2017 Nissan Maxima may lead them to the suspects.

The CRV was stolen from Douglasdale the day before the shooting.

The Maxima was stolen from Wentworth a couple of weeks before the shooting.

They have located the Maxima, but not the CRV.

“We are committed to finding answers for Matthew’s family,” said S/Sgt. Martin Schiavetta.

“It has been more than a year since this murder occurred and we know that there are people out there who have information that could help our investigators. We are asking them to come forward so that we can provide a small amount of closure and justice for this grieving family.”

Bob Maniago issued a plea for help as the family still searches for answers.

“We are here today looking for answers in the homicide of my son, Matthew Maniago. More than one year ago, he was senselessly killed and since then, he has been dearly missed by everyone who knew him. His death has changed all of our lives…

“Matthew deserves justice and we are begging anyone who knows anything to please come forward. As a family we need closure and we are desperate for answers. We cannot go on knowing that there might be someone out there who can help us understand what happened. Our family is forever changed, forever damaged and we will forever suffer.”

Police are still looking for the car involved in the case (pictured above) and asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers.
