COCHRANE (660 NEWS) — A Calgary man has died following a workplace incident at a school in Cochrane Friday morning.

Cst. Jennifer Brewer with Cochrane RCMP said they were called to RancheView School shortly before 9:00 a.m.

“Upon arrival, it was deemed there was a workplace sudden death where a 20-year-old male from Calgary had died on scene,” she said.

EMS Public Education Officer Stuart Brideaux says heavy objects were being moved on scene when the man became temporarily pinned.

He was freed before EMS arrived and was given first aid by his fellow workers.

Brideaux says the man later succumbed to his injuries.

Occupational Health and Safety is investigating the circumstances of what happened.

It’s not been determined whether the death is criminal in nature.

Fortunately, no students were at the school as it was a professional development day.
