Drivers caught taking pictures of crash scene fined for distracted driving

CYPRESS COUNTY (660 NEWS) – You can slow down to take a look, but don’t snap a picture.

That’s the message from RCMP after several drivers were caught taking pictures of a semi crash on the Trans Canada Highway Tuesday.

A HALO Air Ambulance was called to the crash scene, near Suffield around 12:20 p.m. after a tractor-trailer rolled over in the eastbound lanes of the highway.

First responders noticed several drivers slowing down to take pictures with their cell phones.

RCMP eventually gave tickets to five drivers for distracted driving, the penalty for which is a $300 fine.

Police are reminding motorists it is illegal to drive a vehicle on a highway while holding, viewing or manipulating a cell phone or other communication device.
