CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A seven-year, terrorism-related investigation by the RCMP’s Integrated National Enforcement Team (INSET) has resulted in charges against another Calgary man.

Mounties have charged 30-year-old Jamal Taan Borhot with three counts of participation in the activities of a terrorist group.

It’s alleged he travelled to Syria between May of 2013 and April of 2014, where he participated in activities on behalf of the Islamic State.

“Terrorist investigations by their very nature are extremely lengthy, complex and require the support of both domestic and international partners,” said Superintendent Stacey Talbot, Officer-in-Charge of the “K” Division INSET in a release.

“It is through an integrated law enforcement approach, that the RCMP and its partners are in a better position to prevent, detect, deny and respond to threats to Canada’s national security.”

Borhot is due to appear in provincial court Monday, Sept. 28.

That makes him the second person charged in the investigation following the same charges laid against 34-year-old Hussein Sobhe Borhot.
