EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – The Alberta NDP wants an investigation to be conducted following allegations of poor living conditions at the Good Smartian Southgate Care Centre in Edmonton.
The NDP said the care centre should have been under the closet watch after 34 residents died during an outbreak of COVID-19 at the centre.

“We want to make sure that seniors are safe in our province in our continuing care system. So, we are asking for a public inquiry regarding the continuing care system in our province specifically at this facility,” Seniors and Housing Critic Lori Sigurdon said.
“We have heard these remarks from staff who work in the facility who say seniors are being neglected, not cared for appropriately, that’s not okay.”
Sigurdon added residents are not being cleaned properly.
“Sometimes they need to have their incontinence products changed and they are not changed in a timely manner and the facility in general,” she said. “There are comments about the floor being sticky, it’s not cleaned. These are some serious allegations and we want to make sure that seniors are in a clean facility.”
A public inquiry was made back in May.
