Political commentator says she doesn’t think Nenshi will run in 2021

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – As one councillor reveals a bid to win the mayoral seat, a political commentator says she doesn’t think Mayor Naheed Nenshi will run again in the 2021 election.

Political commentator Lori Williams says she doesn’t believe Nenshi will enter the race for mayor, and says that will make a large field of candidates appear on the ballot.

“The field is open in terms of opportunity. This is also a very difficult time in Calgary.”

However, she doesn’t think Nenshi is done with politics, saying he may go into provincial or federal.

With councillor Jeromy Farkas throwing his hat into the ring Wednesday, Williams expects other councillors and community members to follow suit.

“I think there’s a possibility that some of the other people that are on the council that have distinguished themselves in the public eye might look at this as an opportunity for them to make a difference in a positive way.”

She says a perfect example is councillor Jyoti Gondek, saying she may run in the October 2021 election.
