Police release photo of suspect in morning shooting

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary Police Services have released a photo of a suspect believed to be involved in a fatal shooting early Saturday.

Police were first called to Forest Lawn after reports of a shooting. Several minutes later, police located a vehicle that had collided into an LRT barricade at 36 Street and 26 Avenue N.E.

CPS say the shooting occurred outside the Portico Hookah Lounge on 36 Street and 17 Avenue S.E.

“It is believed that two groups of males became involved in a disturbance inside of the lounge before being asked to leave,” said CPS in a statement.

Police believe once the groups were outside, the dispute escalated and a shooting occurred.

One of the victims initially left the area with witnesses and was taken to hospital following the collision at the level crossing. He was later pronounced dead.

A second man, who police believe to be an innocent bystander, was reportedly standing outside at the time of the shooting and was struck by a stray bullet.

He was transported to hospital, where he remains in stable condition.

After speaking to witnesses in the area, CPS are now asking for help locating a suspect believed to be involved in the shooting.

Anyone with any information regarding the shooting is being asked to contact the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234, the homicide tip line at 403-428-8877, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
