CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Crews tended to a large grass fire on Calgary’s north end, which created a lot of smoke Friday morning and afternoon.
The Calgary Fire Department said they were called to the blaze burning in a field along 144th Ave. in the northwest community of Livingston around 10:30 a.m.
“It was a field that had been combined or harvested several days ago,” Carol Henke, Public Information Officer for the Calgary Fire Department, said.

“There was some remaining organic debris or chaff on it, and because of the dry conditions that we’re experiencing right now, and the warm weather, it was quite dry, so it ignited quite easily.”
Henke added the fire could have moved faster and possibly threatened homes, but the lack of wind helped crews get the blaze under control.
The cause of the fire remains unknown.
Anyone who has videos of the incident are asked to send them to the Calgary Fire Department.
