Hinshaw confirms 98 new cases of COVID-19, one new death

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Alberta Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw confirms 98 new cases of COVID-19 within the last 24 hours as well as one new death.
Additionally, 45 Albertans are in hospital due to the virus and seven remain in ICU.
There are 1,585 active cases of COVID-19 within the province.

A total of 10,500 tests were conducted within the last 24 hours.
A woman in her 70s from the Edmonton zone passed due to complications from the virus.
“COVID losses do remind us why we are living with public health measures,” said Hinshaw.
Hinshaw says they are keeping a close eye on possible cases of COVID-19 within school-aged populations.
Hinsahw reiterates mandatory notification is in place for those in a school where a case is found.

However, she says the most important numbers to track are the students who were infectious while attending classes.
A total of 16 students were present at 16 different schools while they could spread the virus.

Hinshaw says notifications will be sent out to those who could have come into contact with confirmed cases.

Additionally, she says a new online map showing schools with two or more confirmed cases will be launched.
The 16 schools with one case do not qualify.
