CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have released more information about a downtown shooting on Monday near the Central Library.

They say officers in the area heard the shots at around 1:50 p.m near an apartment building on 8 Avenue S.E and saw a vehicle fleeing the scene.

They don’t believe anyone was hit by the gunfire, but a police staff sergeant calls it a brazen, targeted act that could have resulted in a tragedy.

“Public safety is always our primary concern and we are committed to holding those responsible for this careless and dangerous act accountable,” said Staff Sergeant Theresa Garagan in a release.

Officers say it started with a fight between three men outside an apartment building. Two men fled in a black Hyundai Sonata while the third man fired shots at the car and fled in a different vehicle.
