More arrests made in connection to murder of Chestermere man

As the search for the body of Shane Smith continues, two more men are charged in connection to his disappearance. Jackie Perez reports.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary police have arrested two more men following the disappearance and suspected murder of a Chestermere man, as the search for his body continues.

On June 6, 20-year-old Shane Smith went missing after last being seen at a home in McKenzie Towne. Police believe that he was killed later that night.

Just over a week after his disappearance, police arrested 24-year-old Ian Abercrombie and charged him with second degree murder. However, Smith’s remains have still never been found.

In July, Smith’s family held a press conference at CPS headquarters pleading for help from the public to help locate his remains. During the press conference, Smith’s mother said that her son was killed by someone that he thought was a friend.

Since then, police have been able to identify several vehicles that they believe were involved in dumping Smith’s remains. Then on Tuesday, they announced new charges.

Andrew Leger-Wagner, 23, and Andrew Bablitz, 24, both from Calgary, were arrested on August 13 and face numerous charges including obstruction of justice, indignity to a human body, and firearms trafficking.

If you have any information about the case or where Smith’s remains may be located, contact police or Crime Stoppers.
