‘Impaired’ truck driver arrested in fatal collision with cyclist

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have arrested a 25-year-old man for impaired driving causing death following a fatal collision with a cyclist in McKenzie Lake Saturday night.

Police said the truck driver struck a man on his bike while driving out of the McKenzie Meadows Golf Club parking lot shortly after 8:00 p.m.

Police believe the driver was going eastbound on McKenzie Drive SE. when he crossed a solid yellow line and entered the westbound lanes.

That’s when he hit the cyclist, a man in his 60s.

The cyclist was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver remained as police were dispatched.

Sgt. Chris Warren said “alcohol is being looked at as a factor in that collision.”

Charges have not been laid as police continue to investigate. They are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 403-266-1234 or Crime Stoppers.
