Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the city of Calgary.

“Thunderstorms will develop along the foothills this afternoon and evening and will move eastward. Some of these thunderstorms may become severe. Watches may be expanded this afternoon,” said the warning, issued around 11 a.m. Thursday.

“Conditions are favourable for the development of dangerous thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, damaging hail and heavy rain.”

The public in the area is advised to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada. To report severe weather, people can send an email to ABstorm@canada.ca or tweet reports using #ABStorm.
