Alberta Hutterite colony under quarantine following COVID-19 outbreak

CLARESHOLM (660 NEWS) – A Hutterite colony in southern Alberta has gone into quarantine to try and stop the spread of COVID-19 after an outbreak was declared at the colony.

The decision to declare an outbreak was made by the town of Claresholm, the Willow Creek colony, and AHS.

It isn’t known about many cases that are on the colony, but the local municipal district has 10 active cases, while the MD of Willow Creek is under a COVID watch declaration by the province.

During Thursdays’ provincial update, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says many colonies across Alberta have active cases.

“I don’t have an exact number of cases that have been linked to colonies in Alberta. We definitely have had some cases with links to Saskatchewan.”

Roger Reid, the MLA for the area is also condemning incidents of discrimination against members of the colony since the outbreak started.
