Alberta government ends funding agreement with Lethbridge consumption site

LETHBRIDGE – The Alberta government says a grant expenditure audit has found more than 1.6-million dollars unaccounted for at a supervised drug site in Lethbridge.

The province ordered the audit after it heard allegations of irregularities at ARCHES, the non-profit agency overseeing the site.

A report from Deloitte says another 13-thousand dollars was used for parties, staff retreats and gift cards for board members.

The province says it won’t stand by while millions in taxpayer funds are missing or misappropriated and has ended its funding agreement with the site.
