Heritage homeowners could receive tax break

CALGARY (660 NEWS) — Calgary’s heritage homeowners could be seeing a big break on property taxes under a proposal at city hall.

The recommendation could result in a 75 per cent property tax break.

Coun. Jyoti Gondek says heritage homeowners face huge costs for upgrades and maintenance.

She adds the tax break could help with expenses, although not all properties would qualify.

It’s estimated the move would cost the city about $95,000 a year.

The city has 665 known heritage properties.
