CALGARY (660 NEWS) — One city councillor is looking at changing a name of a park and parkade in Chinatown.

Coun. Druh Farrell is introducing a notice of motion to look at the name of the James Short Park and parkade.

After consultation with the Chinatown Community Association, the Chinatown BIA and other Chinese-Calgarian groups, Farrell will bring the motion forward to the city’s Priorities and Finance committee on Tuesday.

She cites his history of trying to block Chinese Canadians from buying land in the area as a reason for it.

He was a lawyer, principal and councillor in Calgary in the late 1800s.
