Parks Canada warns of wolves in Banff National Park

BANFF (660 NEWS) – Parks Canada officials are asking you to be on the lookout for wolves in Banff National Park.

On July 6, a wolf was spotted entering a storage building and approaching people near Sunshine Village.

It’s believed the animal had been in the area for some time looking for food and garbage.

The wolf was deemed a risk to public safety, captured and collared to assess its condition and behaviour.

Unfortunately, parks officials said the wolf was not a good candidate for rehabilitation and had to be put down.

Officials said the action was taken only after carefully considering all options.

Wolves were also spotted near the Egypt Lake campground and on Highway 1 east of Banff then later on Banff Avenue.

You’re reminded to stay alert, keep food and garbage secure, never feed wildlife or litter, and always give wildlife space.
