Environment Canada confirms tornado touched down Tuesday night

BROOKS (660 NEWS) – Environment Canada is confirming that a tornado touched down near Brooks Tuesday night.

They say the twister was on the ground briefly north of the community, and so far, there isn’t any confirmed damage.

The tornado is rated as the weakest on the scale, an EF0.

Just after 8 p.m. when the warnings went out, social media was flooded with pictures of the cyclone churning not far from the Trans Canada Highway.

Environment Canada is now investigating funnel clouds reported around Carstairs and other areas of central Alberta, but so far hasn’t confirmed if any of those touched down.
