CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Many people were frightened Sunday night as a tornado warning was issued for Calgary and areas east of the city.
While Calgary’s warning was over in a matter in minutes, it remained for some time for Chestermere and the hamlet of Conrich in Rocky View County.
Beth Allan is a storm chaser and was returning from Saskatchewan when she saw the storm.
“We were getting hailed on at the time, so we had to run out in the hail and check out on the storm. We spent a lot of time watching lightning and watching as the storm moved past from Cross Iron.”
Many people took to social media following the tornado warning, some sharing photos of the dark clouds over the city.

The warning and the severe storm caught many by surprise, including Allan.
“We really didn’t think we were going to get much in the way of severe weather but we have this thing called ‘foothills magic.’ Storms run off the foothills (and) sometimes they just do a little bit of a spin.”
There have been no reports of a twister touching down.
Calgary police also said they had no calls for damage caused by extreme weather.
