Boating advisory lifted for Bow and Elbow Rivers

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgarians can once again float down the Bow and Elbow rivers as the city has lifted its boating advisory.

The warning was put in place more than a week ago following multiple major storms resulting in dangerous flow rates.

Carol Henke with the Calgary Fire Department says the situation has improved but you still need to be careful before venturing out into the water.

“We want to remind people that where there’s water, there’s risk. We know that people can get into trouble in very shallow water as well,” warned Henke.

“You always need to be aware and prepared.” Life jackets are mandatory on Calgary waterways and those choosing to go without risk a fine up to $500.

Additionally, the consumption of alcohol is prohibited while out on the water.

To learn more about flow rates and safety alerts, check out the City’s or the province’s website before heading out on the waterways.
