Province to provide update on support for Calgarians affected by hail storm

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Premier Jason Kenney will provide an update on the Province’s response to the hail storm that damaged thousands of homes in Calgary earlier this month.

Kenney will be joined by Municipal Affairs Minister Kaycee Madu, local MLAs and the director of the Alberta Emergency Management Agency for the announcement at 1:00 Thursday afternoon.

Several community groups have lobbied the provincial government for disaster relief following the massive hail storm on June 13.

In a series of letters sent to the Premier’s office, these groups say insurance companies will over cover a fraction of the repair costs.

The Opposition NDP has asked the government to declare the storm a disaster so that emergency funds can be made available.

The storm battered homes, ripped apart siding and heavily damaged vehicles and Mayor Naheed Nenshi believed the damage estimates could reach $1 billion.
