Suspicious fire at downtown restaurant

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police and the fire department are looking into a suspicious fire at a downtown restaurant.

Emergency crews were called to the Chinese Village Restaurant on 6 Street and 6 Ave. SW just after midnight Tuesday.

“One of the businesses in the alley had smoke coming from it,” said Battalion Chief Paul Frederick. “(firefighters) entered and found an active fire in the restaurant.”

Fortunately, no one was inside at the time and the fire was limited to the restaurant. There was no damage to the structure of the building.

The Arson Unit has been called in to investigate.
