Kenney calls on NHL to come to Alberta

There was confusion when Premier Kenney tweeted out a video of the Rocky Mountains while encouraging the NHL to choose Edmonton as a hub city. But as Carly Robinson reports, the government says they wanted to show options for players families.

EDMONTON (660 NEWS) – Premier Jason Kenney has made a pitch to the National Hockey League to come to Alberta.

In a video posted to the Premier’s Twitter page shows the scenery of mountains and Jasper National Park.

The video shows people hiking and dining out.

The only problem is Edmonton is the only city in Alberta in the running to become an NHL hub and is a three-hour drive from the mountains.

People have taken to Twitter to mock Kenney’s pitch because NHL players would be quarantined to their hub city and would not be able to travel around the province.

The Executive Director of Issues Management for the Premier of Alberta, Matt Wolf,  also commented on Kenney’s video saying “For those unable to figure out – should Edmonton be chosen as a playoff hub city, players and their families will be looking to do other things to keep busy.”

“Yes, the Government is showcasing all our province has to offer.”
