CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A 10-year veteran at Calgary city council won’t be running in next year’s municipal election.

Shane Keating, who has represented Ward 12 since 2010, made the announcement on YouTube Monday morning.

“I believe Ward 12 needs someone who will be able to aspire to be your councillor,” Keating said in the video. “Continue with enthusiasm and the ability to collaborate and compromise with the rest of the city.”

Keating also cited last week’s approval of the Green Line LRT, a project he’s been a fervent booster of for several years.

“I feel that the torch should be picked up by someone else who will continue to fight on your behalf.”

He also noted how he believes municipal politics has become “negative and accusational” and in some cases “void of truth.”
