Calgary player’s long hockey journey lands him in Anaheim

ANAHEIM – The Anaheim Ducks signed defenceman Kodie Curran to a two-year contract Monday, the team announced.

The deal is reportedly worth $2 million, according to Cap Friendly.

Curran played the last two seasons with Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League, winning MVP and Defenceman of the Year in 2019-20. The 30-year old tallied 12 goals and 37 assists this past season, leading all blueliners in points and assists.

Prior to joining Rogle BK, Curran won back-to-back championships in Norway (with Storhamar in 2017-18) and Denmark (with Esbjerg in 2016-17). He was named the Norwegian Player of the Year and playoff MVP in 2017-18.

A native of Calgary, Curran helped Team Canada advance to the championship game of the 2018 Spengler Cup, posting a plus-2 rating in four games during the tournament. His most recent professional action in North America came in 2015-16 when he appeared in 63 combined games split between the AHL and ECHL.

Kurran spent four seasons with the Calgary Canucks of the AJHL before playing five years with the University of Calgary.
