Police investigating death of senior as homicide

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A resident at a seniors’ facility injured in a fire last month has died, and police are now treating the death as a homicide.

On April 27, firefighters were called to Wentworth Manor on 14 Ave SW for an unsuspicious fire.

After the blaze was contained, a man in his 80s was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition. He succumbed to his injuries this week.

Police had charged a resident of the facility with arson, and additional charges are pending from the homicide investigation.

The suspect suffers from a mental health condition, and his identity is not being released.
