Chinese Consulate tagged with racist graffiti

The Chinese Consulate General's office in downtown Calgary has been tagged twice in just over a week with racist graffiti. Tara Overholt tells us who police are looking for.

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Calgary Police Hate Crimes Unit is investigating the second instance of graffiti outside the Chinese Consulate general office in the last week.

This latest instance happened around 3:30 Wednesday morning when police say three men, dressed in black, spray-painted the walls of the office with vulgar phrases referencing COVID-19 and China.

Last Tuesday, the sidewalk outside the office at 6 Ave and 10 Street SW, was spray-painted, but there wasn’t a COVID-19 reference.

Hate crimes coordinator Craig Collins says Calgary has only seen a slight increase in hate instances targeting those of Asian descent, unlike other jurisdictions that have recorded a large spike.

If you recognize the men (pictured above) involved in this latest graffiti incident, you’re asked to call Calgary police or Crime Stoppers.
