City of Calgary wants your input into future of public art program

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – With Calgary’s public art program still on hold, a search has begun to find a new organization to take the reins.

Now, the city wants to hear from you about the future of the program.

The city has launched an online survey on its website to gather opinions on what the program should look like in the future and what sort of organization should take control.

“Calgarians are very passionate about art and continuing to make Calgary an inviting and vibrant place to live and visit,” said Jennifer Thompson, acting manager of Arts and Culture at The City of Calgary.

“It’s important we understand the expectations and priorities of Calgarians when it comes to this new direction for public art in our city.”

In particular, the city is looking for opinions from those in the arts community and those passionate about art.

The survey runs from now until June 30, with online sessions being held June 16-18 for those seeking more information.

Once the survey is finished, requests for proposals from organizations will go out in the fall.

The public art program was halted in September amid criticism about controversial projects and that the cost to taxpayers was too much.
