Alberta records first tornado of the year

MOSSLEIGH (660 NEWS) – Alberta’s first tornado of the year has been confirmed.

Environment Canada says a landspout tornado touched down Wednesday morning near Mossleigh, about 90 kilometres southeast of Calgary.

Pictures of the twister show a small funnel high in the sky with a dust cloud around its base.

There have been no reports of damage and has been classified an E-F Zero, the weakest on the scale.

This kind of tornado rarely touches down and when it does, it causes very little damage.

Environment Canada has issued a weather advisory for Brooks, Strathmore and Vulcan, warning similar funnel clouds could form this afternoon.
