Charges dropped against man arrested for voyeurism in Calgary

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – As of June 5. charges have been dropped against a man in Calgary who was accused of voyeurism involving a child.

Keegan Spearchief’s lawyers say Spearchief was in Lethbridge at the time of the alleged offences.

Defence lawyer Ingrid Hess called the arrest of the Indigenous man very troubling and says it was a clear case of mistaken identity.

“It’s troubling to me that he was arrested on the basis of the scant amount of evidence that they had,” said Hess.

“There was no physical evidence, there was no on-seen witness identification.”

Hess says, despite the lack of evidence, Spearchief’s picture was plastered all over social media, identifying him as the perpetrator of a crime involving a child.

Spearchief was wanted by Calgary Police after allegedly watching a 12-year-old girl through a bedroom window while conducting a sexual act on May 14.

Spearchief does have a lengthy record for sexual violence against women and girls and is considered a high-risk offender.
