Blue bin collection still happening following coronavirus outbreak at recycling centre

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The City of Calgary says they will continue to pick up blue bins across the city, but the items inside will not be recycled.

That is because Alberta Health Services declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Cascades Recovery Recycling Centre located in southeast Calgary.

Nineteen employees have tested positive for the virus.

“It’s been temporarily suspended, so first off they did a deep clean and then back in came health, they said let’s do it one more time, so we did really deep clean again,” said CEMA Chief Tom Sampson.

The hope is to have the building back up and running early next week.

If you do not want some materials inside your bin given to the dump, Sampson says you do not have to put out your blue bin if you do not want to.
