Former Stampeder Mike Labinjo death deemed suspicious

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Calgary police have revealed the death of former Stampeder Mike Labinjo is suspicious.
Labinjo, 38, was found dead in his home on Sept. 21, 2018, where the death was initially believed to be not criminal.

However, when family members reported items were missing from his home, an investigation showed numerous items and sports memorabilia were stolen immediately following Labinjo’s death.
Among the items are two championship rings including one from the 2008 Grey Cup with his name written on the side.

Labinjo was a linebacker who played for the Calgary Stampeders from 2007-2010 and also played for the Philidelphia Eagles, Indianapolis Colts, and Miami Dolphins.
In a statement from Labinjo’s family, his brother Randy pleaded for anyone with information to come forward.

“To all who knew Mike, he was a caring, kind, gentle and loving person. To me, he was my brother. I love him. When I lost him, I lost a part of myself that I can never regain. I think about growing up together and the things I learned from him. I will continue to remember all the memories we shared together.”
