Over 30 charges laid in April shooting in northeast

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary man is facing over 30 charges after a shooting in the city’s northeast nearly two weeks ago.

On April 26, police said someone in a car opened fire on another vehicle carrying four people as it was travelling on Metis Trail.

Thankfully, no one was injured in the shooting.

Investigators identified a potential suspect and searched two vehicles and a home in Saddleridge on May 2.

As a result, a 20-year-old man was arrested and charged with 31 firearms offences including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

“We are extremely lucky that no members of the public were injured during this shooting,” said S/Sgt. Greg Cooper. “We are committed to ensuring that anyone who creates a risk to the safety of our community is held accountable.”

Upon his arrest, Police said the suspect had an illegally acquired Glock firearm loaded with a modified high-capacity magazine.
