QEII Highway closed near Leduc; one dead in officer-related shooting

LEDUC (660 NEWS) – A stretch of the QEII Highway near Leduc was closed Wednesday for a police investigation.
A suspect in a shooting in the community of Blackfalds has been killed by RCMP. A woman has been wounded and an RCMP officer has serious, non-life-threatening injuries.

At around 8:00 Wednesday morning, shots were fired as officers responded to a firearms complaint.
A woman, not involved with the incident, was shot and taken to hospital with serious injuries.
The man involved in the incident fled the scene along the QE2 highway.

The vehicle crashed and there was a confrontation with officers where the man was killed and the officer was injured.
The RCMP says both the northbound and southbound lanes of the QEII at Highway 2A were impassable as they deal with the incident.
While police have not released details on the incident the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) says it is looking the officer-involved shooting.
