CALGARY (660 NEWS) – While some parts of the city are hoping to reopen soon, that won’t be the case for recreation centres.

The City of Calgary says some of its operated facilities including art centres, athletic parks, playfields and playgrounds will remain closed.

Skateparks are currently open and select city-owned golf courses will open on May 14.

In a letter sent to members of Calgary Recreation, the City says it’s also cancelling programs and facility bookings up to Aug. 31.

This also includes gym bookings at schools with the Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Separate School Board and Francophone School Boards.

“The City will continue to evaluate opportunities to re-open recreational facilities and offer programming when it is safe to do so. We understand the impact this decision has, but these measures are necessary to help support the Province of Alberta’s efforts to manage the public health crisis.”

Refunds for any bookings or programs like day camps and swimming lessons will be given on an incremental basis through the end of the summer.
