City releases price tag for fixing sloping pathway in the southeast

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The City of Calgary is footing a massive bill to repair a slumping pathway in the southeast.

The city’s administration revealing it will cost $28 million to repair the path along the north edge of the Bow River, next to Douglasdale and McKenzie Lake.

It had been budgeted to cost $20 million to repair the entire 3.5 km pathway but that money has been spent repairing only three of the nine sections.

The pathway was sloping dangerously and it was feared it may impact nearby homes. It has been closed since the summer of 2016, due to erosion caused by heavy rainfall in the Mt. Alberta View area.

The administration says several, unpredictable factors also contributed to the high price tag, including heavy rains and problems with the original construction.
