RCMP charge one person for claiming they have coronavirus

WETASKIWIN (660 NEWS) – A Wetaskiwin man has been charged for coughing on police officers and claiming he had COVID-19.

Dwight Tootoosis, 59, is facing six charges including two counts of assaulting a police officer and one count of failing to comply with the public health act.

On the afternoon of April 5, RCMP received a report of a disturbance and arrived to find Tootoosis who was in breach of his release conditions.

As he was being placed in the back of the police cruiser, he claimed he had the virus and coughed in faces of the officers.

He later coughed at another RCMP member at the detachment.

A similar incident happened in Edmonton on Monday after a man who claimed he had contracted COVID-19 coughed on a city bus driver.
