Green Calgary offers ways to keep the kids busy during time at home

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Green Calgary is doing its part to help keep students and families busy during a time of social distancing.

“What we’re offering is a weekly curriculum that’s linked to activities for a wide range of ages, focussing on waste and recycling and living a sustainable life,” said Nirmala Naidoo, Executive Director of Green Calgary.

“We’re an environmental education charity, and normally we’d be out in schools and workplaces delivering educational programs, but obviously, in these very trying times, we’re not able to do that.”

The free online content will include two new activities kids and families and complete at home, each week.

You can share your projects online using the hashtag #greencalgary.

“Never before have our backyards been as important as they’re going to be this coming summer.  If the inside of your house is the office, your backyard is going to be your oasis for your family.”

Naidoo said week one challenges include a waste audit and diverting waste at home.

“We encourage people to use recycled materials and things found outdoors in your garden or your park, things that everybody has access to.”
