One more COVID-19 death at McKenzie Towne care home

CALGARY – Another person living at the McKenzie Towne Continuing Care Centre has passed away from COVID-19, bringing the total number of coronavirus-related deaths at the long-term care facility to three.

One other resident remains in hospital with the virus, according to the home’s Dr. Rhonda Collins.

“There are 36 residents who have tested positive for COVID-19 remain in the home in isolation. A total of 82 residents are in isolation in four home areas at McKenzie Towne, and we await test results for 10 of those from Alberta Health Services,” said Collins in a release.

Five staff members have also tested positive.

“For the home areas in isolation, staff providing care wear full PPE for droplet precautions and continue to practice good hand hygiene between every resident interaction. We are continuing with enhanced cleaning of all resident and common areas and high touch surfaces.”

Colllins added that they have been able to recruit more health care staff to work at the facility.
