Canmore asking visitors not to stop in town during COVID-19 pandemic

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – The Town of Canmore is taking extra measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 telling visitors it’s not appropriate to stop in town at this time.

“Driving through the mountains to enjoy the scenery is not prohibited by the Government of Alberta, but we need Canmore residents and visitors to make socially responsible decisions,” Mayor John Borrowman said in a release on the town’s website.

The Mountain Village is also asking for residents to postpone trips out of town.

Most businesses in Canmore have closed or restricted services to prevent the virus from spreading.

Health officials are encouraging people to go for walks in neighbourhoods and parks while maintaining a distance from others and avoiding high traffic areas.

As of Mar. 21, Canmore has two confirmed COVID-19 in the area.
