CALGARY (660 NEWS) — A lockdown at Sir Winston Churchill High School has come to an end.

Officers responded to the scene and Sgt. Duane Lepchuk says they received reports of a youth with a gun in a backpack earlier and searched the school.

“We attended, we located the student, we did locate a replica airsoft gun in his backpack,” Lepchuk said.

He continued to add that students and staff followed proper procedures to keep everyone safe.

“A student at Winston Churchill High School observed another student with what he believed to be a gun in his backpack. He reported it to the front office, the principal with this information put the school into lockdown,” he added.

Officers are speaking with the student and no one was hurt in the incident.
